Road Safety Digital Roundtable

The Council are working on implementing citywide mandatory 20mph limits on most roads. In what ways could the roll out of this be supported to maximise the road safety benefits?

Road design needs to reflect the change in speed, or drivers will continue to believe they can get away with it. Broomielaw is great example of a road design that is telling drivers they should be moving at speed (40mph) but is actually limited to 20mph. Driving at the correct speed always makes other drivers around me very angry, the roads need to be altered to suit the new speed limit, more street trees, narrow junctions, remove central reservation and reduce lane widths this all supports the actual use of the road at the speed limit suggested by signage

These are all great suggestions and the sort of thing our sustainable and liveable neighbourhoods teams are progressing at the moment. I'll ask my Officers to review vehicle speeds on the Broomielaw using our new speed analysis tool. If you have any concerns about speeding, please contact Police Scotland or email RoadSafety@glasgow.gov.uk and we can look into this for you.
