Candidate code: 64

Candidate Summary

I want to become an MSYP as I see this an opportunity to get my voice out there. I would like to help people my age with their distresses whether in school, the community or anywhere else. Being a young person is not as easy as adults think it is. They may think that we don’t have problems but that’s not true. Young People are going through a lot which may affect them emotionally, mentally, academically and even financially which as brought about an increase to mental health issues.

Personal statement

I will consult with Young people by creating surveys that I would use to obtain views from young people about what they would like changed or improved in their schools and communities.

I will try to bring up youth forums where we can come together as a community and discuss our views and ideas on how to improve our constituency as a whole.

I will implement suggestions boxes in schools so I will gather ideas from pupils and see to make a change. I would also like to create a social media page where young people can express their perspectives on what they would want to get done that would make our communities better.

Lastly, I will also try to go out of my way to have one to one discussions with young people so to have a direct contact with them and get to know how they feel.

What are the three issues that you are most interested in?

Health and Wellbeing, Education and Lifelong Learning and Environment.

What issue matters most to you and why?

Health and wellbeing matters most to me as it collides with other things like education & environment. Young People today are facing a lot of pressure from school, social media, finances and life in general. Many young people leave school with lack of financial Knowledge which is leading to a lot of mental health issues causing young people to be classed as ‘vulnerable’, because, they were not taught basic financial skills like budget management and saving which as led to quite a lot of young people experiencing debt then leading to them experiencing stress and depression. I believe that mental health is just as important as our physical health. I would like to see financial education made a consistent part of the curriculum in schools. When young people are healthy in body and mind we can thrive and contribute more to our communities.

Why Should Someone Vote for You?

You should vote for me because I am committed to being a genuine voice for young people, who listens, understands and takes action. I believe that young people deserves to be heard. If elected to the SYP, I will stand for inclusion, fairness, and opportunity for all, regardless of background, I will stand to make sure Young People’s views are heard and well represented. I am passionate about tackling issues in education, mental health, equality, safety and youth participation in decision making. I am here to make a difference and with your vote I will work really hard to ensure our voices are heard and together turn our ideas into action and make our future stronger.
