Why do you want to become an MSYP
I want to become an MSYP because I want to make real changes for young people in Glasgow Central. One change I would like to see is shorter waiting times for mental health support. Waiting a long time for help can be difficult when someone is already struggling. I would also like to expand free travel to trains. Free bus travel for under-22s is a great support, but adding free train travel would give young people more transport options and could make some journeys quicker. I would also like bus services to run more often and be more reliable. I also want to improve safety by supporting better street lighting in areas where young people walk, especially during dark winter evenings. I have seen local youth organisations create positive change. As an MSYP, I would listen to young people, find out what needs to change and raise these issues.
Why should someone vote for you?
People should vote for me because I am calm, organised and responsible, and I would use these skills to help make changes. I would listen to young people and take their concerns seriously. If young people told me that mental health waiting times were too long, buses were unreliable or they felt unsafe walking home in the dark, I would raise these issues and follow them up. My organisation skills would help me keep track of problems and make sure they are not forgotten. Being calm and patient would help me listen to different opinions and understand people’s experiences. I am also confident enough to speak up when something needs to change. I would keep young people updated about what I am doing and what progress has been made. I want to be an MSYP who does more than listen.
How will you consult with young people in your constituency?
I would ask young people directly about the issues that affect them. I would use surveys, polls and quizzes to ask what they think about mental health support, public transport and safety in their area. I would also speak to young people through schools and youth organisations. This would help me hear from people with different experiences. I would look at the answers and find the issues that come up most often. I would then raise these issues with the people who can help make changes. I would keep young people updated about what I have done with their views.
What are your top three issues from the list given?
Environment, Health and Wellbeing, and Transport.
