Why do you want to become an MSYP

I want to become an MSYP because I believe young people deserve to have a genuine say in the decisions that affect their lives. I want to use my experience in youth representation to make sure young people in my area are listened to, particularly those who may not normally have the confidence or opportunities to speak up. I also want to turn the views of young people into meaningful action, whether that is improving access to opportunities, protecting young people’s rights or tackling inequality.

Why should someone vote for you?

People should vote for me because I am passionate about representing young people and I am prepared to put the work in. I have experience in pupil representation, youth organisations and community projects, which has taught me how to listen to different perspectives, communicate effectively and advocate for change. I would not simply represent my own opinions. I would make sure the voices of young people across my area are heard and taken seriously.

How will you consult with young people in your constituency?

I will make consultation accessible and varied so that young people can participate in a way that suits them. I would speak to young people through schools, youth groups, community organisations and local events, as well as using social media and online surveys. I would also make an effort to reach young people who are less likely to engage with politics or formal consultations. Most importantly, I would regularly report back on what I have heard and what action I am taking, so consultation becomes an ongoing conversation rather than simply asking for opinions and forgetting about them.

What are your top three issues from the list given?

Jobs, Economy and Fair Work, Justice, Transport. The issue that matters most to me is inequality of opportunity. Where someone grows up, their family circumstances or their financial situation should not determine what opportunities they have. I care particularly about access to education, youth services, employment opportunities and safe, affordable housing. I believe young people should have the support and opportunities they need to build a positive future, regardless of their background.
